The World Travel Awards Claims its Eleventh Victory

The 11th annual World Travel Awards Gala Ceremony, an event dedicated to the tremendous contributions and achievements of the travel industry, was hosted for the third time in the Caribbean last night, December 11, and has been deemed the most spectacular so far by industry leaders.

Hosted at the Sherbourne Conference Centre on the magical island of Barbados, this year's awards were attended by hundreds of the travel industry leaders and thousands of audience worldwide watched the exclusive live webcast powered by Cable & Wireless.

Key industry figures including Hon Noel A. Lynch, M.P. Minister Tourism and International Transport of Barbados, Hudson Husbands, Chairman, Barbados Tourism Authority, Angela G. Goicouria, CTC, Vice President, Visa International, Frank Van Der Post, Vice President, Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts and Ian Lovelock, Worldwide Sales & Marketing Director, Etihad Airways, were in attendance.

This year was a milestone for the awards following the signing of two new media partners, Worldroom Travel TV and BBC World. The awards will be broadcast on BBC World's popular current affairs program, Fast Track, which enables the World Travel Awards to reach 254 million homes in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.

"This is a very exciting development. By partnering with the BBC World we can show the world why the World Travel Awards are the travel industry's premier event", commented Manon Han, Vice President of the World Travel Awards.

The evening was a star studded affair with lively performances from some of the biggest names from the world of music, stage and screen. Michael Imperioli, star of the Sopranos Davey Jones, a former Monkee, and Greg Proops of 'Who's Line Is It Anyway?' were just some of the entertainers who enthralled the audience during the gala show.

The online voting system once again enabled the travel agents worldwide the opportunity to let the world know who they think are the WORLD'S BEST in the Travel Industry, further enhancing the value of the World Travel Awards as the professional's choice. Over 2.5 million voting forms were broadcasted to over 150,000 frontline agents and 80,000 travel agencies worldwide.
